It began at a kitchen table, not a boardroom

It began at a kitchen table, not a boardroom

Aabhaveda did not begin with a business plan. It began with a problem at home that nobody could solve.

Two children, two different problems

Manisha Darji's daughter reacted badly to a commercial skincare product. Around the same time her son was dealing with dandruff that nothing on the shelf seemed to shift. Manisha had been using chemical-based skincare and haircare herself for years, and was beginning to see what it had cost.

The obvious move was to try another brand. She tried several. The pattern held: strong claims on the front, a long ingredient list on the back, and no real way to tell which of the two was doing the work.

So she started making things herself

The first preparations were made at home, in quantities small enough to throw away without much regret. The testers were the people she most wanted to get it right for — her own family — and the feedback was correspondingly blunt.

When her family's skin and hair began to improve, she did something that turned a kitchen-table habit into a discipline: she trained formally in herbal and natural product formulation. Intuition told her which herbs to reach for. Training told her why they worked, at what concentration, and what not to combine.

Each product went to close friends and family first. Their honest feedback — including the unflattering kind — is what shaped the formulas that became Aabhaveda.

What carried over into the brand

Two habits from those early years still decide how we work.

Publish the whole ingredient list. It goes on every pack and every product page, including the parts that are not glamorous. The original frustration was not being able to find out what was in something; it would be strange to reproduce that.

Do not out-promise the evidence. Herbal preparations work gradually and results genuinely vary between people. Saying so costs a few sales and saves a great many disappointed customers.

Where it is now

Aabhaveda is a published range across skin, hair and personal care, formulated and blended in India in small batches, and sold direct so that we hear the complaints ourselves. It is still a family business. The founder still reads the feedback.

You can read more about how we formulate on the About page, or start with a trial combo if you would rather judge for yourself than take our word for it.
