How to build a herbal routine one step at a time

How to build a herbal routine one step at a time

Most people who switch to herbal products do it all at once — a full shelf replaced in a single order — and then cannot tell which product did what. A routine built one step at a time is slower, but it actually tells you something.

Start with the cleanser

Cleansing is the step you do twice a day, so it is the step where a change registers fastest. It is also the cheapest place to start.

Pick by skin type rather than by claim. If your face is shiny by midday or you commute through city air, our Charcoal Face Wash (₹299) is built for that. If your skin feels tight after washing, the Pureglow Face Wash (₹299) is the gentler of the two. Give either a fortnight before deciding.

Add one treatment, not three

Once the cleanser is settled, add a single treatment product and hold everything else constant. This is the whole trick: one variable at a time.

  • Kumkumadi Face Serum (₹629) — two or three drops at night, for tone and texture.
  • Under Eye Oil (₹249) — a small amount, tapped in with the ring finger. The skin there is thin; pressure does not help.

Four weeks is a fair trial for either. If nothing has changed by then, it is probably not the product for you, and that is useful information rather than a failure.

Hair works on a longer clock

Hair grows roughly a centimetre a month, so any change you make takes a season to show properly. A workable rhythm:

  • Oil the scalp once or twice a week — Jadibuti Hair Oil (₹349) for flaking and general scalp condition, Onion Aloevera Hair Oil (₹349) if fall and thinning are the concern.
  • Leave it on at least an hour. Overnight is traditional and works well if you do not mind the pillowcase.
  • Use the Hair Care Mask (₹399) once a week on the lengths, not the roots.

If you would rather not commit

Trial sizes exist precisely for this. The Aabhaveda Trial Combo (₹999) covers a cross-section of the range, and the Herbal Facecare Kit (₹449) is a three-step face routine — scrub, toner and pack — designed to work together. Both are cheaper than buying full sizes and discovering something does not suit you.

Two things worth doing regardless

Patch-test anything new on the inside of your forearm and wait 24 hours. And keep a rough note of when you started something — memory is unreliable about gradual change, and a date in your phone settles arguments with yourself six weeks later.
